GOAL
Improve the way people travel by enhancing the itinerary creation process.
THE PROBLEM
People love to travel, but think the planning process is too tedious.
Instead of being stuck with a set schedule, people want to be more flexible, so they can get suggestions from locals or checkout events / festivals going on nearby, instead of rushing to complete all the activities on an itinerary.
Many people use text or other forms of social media to plan trips with other travelers and often end up having to dig through their text messages to find what they shared.
THE SOLUTION
Instaplan offers users the ability to quickly add places they are interested in to a collaborative checklist and invite other travelers to view, comment, and edit these lists.

TOOLS
RESEARCH
USER INTERVIEWS
15 people between ages 20 - 40 were interviewed in order to understand how users currently create their itineraries and to identify pain points.
"I don't always know where to go. So, I ask my friends for recommendations or search for places online."
"I don't usually book stuff on my phone because when a lot of info is required, I prefer typing it on my computer."
"I wish I knew what the others I traveled with wanted ahead of time so I could have done a better job planning."
MIND MAP
Insights gathered during the interviews were turned into a mind map in order to visualize and understand the user's thought process.
EMPATHY MAP
In order to further understand the user's behavior and needs, we used our interview findings to brainstorm how users think and feel.
PERSONA
Based on research findings, the most common goals and behaviors of the interviewees were combined to create the primary persona, "Adventurous" Amy. The main features of the product are designed to cater to Amy's needs and goals.
CUSTOMER JOURNEY
Amy's travel process has been mapped out visually in order to clearly understand her motivations and pain points.
DESIGN
